RAM is an abbreviation for Random Access Memory. This is a type of computer memory, that, in contrast to other storage devices including hard disk drives or DVDs, permits the data to be accessed directly without reading the previous content saved within it. Every time an app is started, it is stored inside the RAM, as it can be accessed considerably quicker than if it was read from another media device. With regards to the web hosting service itself, more RAM means that more web apps can run at the same time on a particular web server, especially when they are resource-demanding and are accessed by a significant number of people simultaneously. In contrast to a shared web hosting solution where the system resources of a particular account could be flexible and quite often depend on what other users consume too, a VPS has a guaranteed amount of RAM you can use all the time. That memory is allotted to one web server only and shall not be used by other clients even when it's not used.
